"For Our Daughters" Reflections
What I thought as I watched Du Mez's documentary
TW: This post discusses spiritual abuse, and clergy sexual abuse.
In case you haven’t heard, Kristen Kobes Du Mez, author of Jesus and John Wayne shared a free documentary called “For Our Daughters” on YouTube (linked here).
“For Our Daughters” is a short documentary that touches on a couple different topics - Christian Nationalism and clergy sexual abuse. For this reason, it may be difficult for some viewers to watch. For others, it may be triggering in a completely different way. I freely admit that there were times when all I felt was complete anger.
I watched the little clips they shared of male pastors saying how Godly women are to make sandwiches, and babies. (Barf emoji anyone?) A clip of a tank being driven into a men’s conference, because apparently we’re “at war.” One pastor was quoted saying that if the US became a Christian Nation tomorrow, women would no longer have the right to vote. To vote!! (My guys! What are you so afraid of?!)
