Are You There, God?
Content Warning: This post discusses clergy sexual abuse.
Do you ever have those moments where you think “Uh, what are you doing here God? Did I miss something?” That’s where I’m at right now. Here’s why.

Back in March 2022 the Canadian “megachurch” church (yep, I live in Canada) the Meeting House posted a statement that it received allegations of sexual misconduct against it’s pastor Bruxy Cavey. In June 2022 news broke that he was charged with sexual assault. In December 2023, two more charges were laid. On July 17, 2024, the Toronto Star shared an article (here) that the Meeting house can’t operate because it can’t find “abuse liability” insurance.
Yesterday though, CBC news (and others) shared that the original charge had been “stayed.” What does that mean? Basically, it means it’s taken too long for the court’s to set a date for the trial of the original charge, so they won’t prosecute him for that charge because it goes against the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. You can read the article I’m referring to here. It’s a loophole, and a disgusting one at that.
